The Tuxedo Volunteer Ambulance Corps is a New York State Certified Ambulance Corps, covering a 50 square mile district which includes the Town of Tuxedo, Village of Tuxedo Park, Southfields, Arden, Sterling Forest, Eagle Valley, and Harriman State Park.
The Corps averages about 300 calls a year, which works out to about 20 to 25 per month. The building houses Medic 31, our full time paramedic who responds to all emergency calls with TVAC via fly car. Our Medical Director is Dr. Dennis Mao, who has helped us set up a Continuing Medical Education program for our EMTs making it easier to re-certify every three years as required by the New York State Department of Health.
TVAC currently operates two Basic Life Support ambulances, which have the capability to treat many medical emergencies from car accident injuries with our many trauma supplies to asthma and allergic reactions with our medications including Albuterol and Epinephrine . TVAC has 25 active riding members and 6 social members, as well as Youth Corps members. About 75% of our active riding members are New York State Certified Emergency Medical Technicians. All active riding members have minimum certifications of CPR and Bloodborne Pathogens training.
